We know you will enjoy the great look and durability of your new borders for years and years. Below is information regarding the care and minimal maintenance of the borders. Please take a few minutes to review this information to help ensure that your borders will look great and last for years to come.
PRECAUTIONS
Even though the borders may be dry to the touch, during the full curing process (approximately 28 days) they will be in a weakened state. Great care should be taken to keep pets, children and objects away from the borders for at least 48 hours after they are installed.
The remainder of the landscape work (sod, plantings and rock/mulch) can begin 48 hours after the installation. Again care should be taken to keep shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows away from the borders, as they can mark or damage the borders.
Please do not water the lawn for at least 48 hours after the installation.
If you have hired a landscape contractor let them know that the borders have recently been installed and ask them to take precautions against damaging the curb. Ramps should be built over the curb for wheelbarrows and tractors or trucks should never run over the borders.
If you have your yard professionally fertilized, make sure that all granular fertilizers are swept off before it rains or the yard is watered. Most granular fertilizers will leave a “rust” like spot if left on the border.
If you have a colored, stamped or textured border a coat of cure and seal has been applied. This sealer may be “tacky” for several hours after the installation. It is highly recommended that the border be sealed at least every other year. (Please call for an estimate for this service.)
APPEARANCE
At times efflorescence may appear on your border. This looks like a white powder and is more common with colored borders. There are several “causes” of efflorescence ie: hardness of water, watering and amount of water that gets on the border during curing. A solution of 50/50 water and vinegar with a light brushing should remove efflorescence. This may need to be done a few times.
While curing your borders may look “splotchy.” This is common and should not be of concern. After the border is fully cured the color will even out.
Cracking: Like any other type of concrete your borders can and will crack. However every precaution possible has been taken to minimize cracking.
REPAIRS AND WARRANTY
If the border excessively cracks or another problem is encountered because of the materials we used or the manner of installation, the problem area will be replaced at no charge during the warranty period of Two Years! We will remove the existing concrete border to be replaced, but the customer will be responsible for the disposal of the concrete border removed. The local trash pick-up usually helps with this.
NOTE: Due to the continuous nature of the border, repairs especially in colored, stamped or textured borders, can be difficult or impossible. This may result in the “cure” being more noticeable that the “ill.’
If the border is damaged by contractors, children or pets, repairs can be made. Please call and arrangements can be made for an estimate and the repair.
